Several small striped zebrafish swim in a clear rectangular tank filled with water. Another similar tank with more fish is partially visible on the left side of the image.

Tiny Fish, Big Impact: Advancing Genetic Science to Heal Kids

We are proud to support life-changing research at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. A portion of the proceeds from every kid’s meal sold at Legal Chicago fuels pioneering studies of rare genetic diseases in the lab of Erica Davis, PhD, who uses zebrafish models to investigate how rare syndromes develop—a key to unlocking cures and hope.

Dr. Davis and her team at Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute identify genes that cause neurodevelopmental disorders and ciliopathies, which are disruptions in the hair-like structures on cells. These malfunctions contribute to irregularities in brain development, facial formation, and cell signaling pathways. Their studies with zebrafish pave the way for future treatments.

Discoveries in Dr. Davis’s laboratory advance pediatric medicine and give hope to families searching for answers. Each kid’s meal purchased moves scientists closer to clearer diagnoses and better treatments for children who have rare conditions.

One hundred percent of the funds raised through this program, which is being conducted by a commercial co-venturer, will be used to support Lurie Children’s care and research. Lurie Children’s is located at 225 E. Chicago Avenue, Chicago, IL 60611, (800) 543-7362.
