Founded in 1950 as a family fish market just outside of Boston, we now have 27 restaurants and a thriving national home delivery business.
New England Born and Bred
At Legal Sea Foods we are proud to be woven into the fabric of modern New England. Our forward looking, fighting spirit, is characteristic of a region known for its world-class education, pioneering biotechnology, globally recognized research hospitals, and of course, champion sports teams.
New England has so much to celebrate. And our seafood is no small matter either, with some of the very best in the world coming from our cold, clear waters.
Legal Sea Foods has always been more than just a seafood restaurant. Our roots are deeply anchored in a long tradition of championing quality seafood as part of the New England fishing community – a legacy that today reaches around the world.
Today, at Legal Sea Foods we continue to envision a brighter future for our guests, our team, our suppliers, and our oceans. We share a fresh and evolving taste of New England, ensuring that we will all continue to enjoy the “chowda” for generations to come.
Legal Sea Foods. If it isn’t fresh, it isn’t Legal!
Quality and Responsible Sourcing
We take great pride in our maritime heritage and our role in advancing the nation’s love affair with New England seafood. From the cold waters of the Gulf of Maine we source the world’s best lobsters, clams, and oysters. Our local catch is landed daily at Boston’s century-old Fish Pier, underscoring our commitment to fishing fleets up and down the rocky New England coastline.
Legal Sea Foods ensures that the seafood we put on each plate is of the very best quality. We strive to source in keeping with practices grounded in transparency and traceability, while acknowledging the accompanying industrywide challenges. Whenever possible, we will prioritize purchasing seafood that is certified for adherence to best practices in responsible sourcing.
Our current priority certifications include Marine Stewardship Council, Best Aquaculture Practices, Aquaculture Stewardship Council and Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI), Responsibly Harvested.
Part of our community
At Legal Sea Foods we actively partner with our local communities working alongside those organizations that are finding solutions to causes we all care about.
For the past 30 years we have supported the Boston Children’s Hospital’s stem cell research program, which is searching for ways to cure blood cancer, alongside smaller community initiatives. It’s our way of saying thank you to our locals.
