Responsible Sourcing at Legal Sea Foods

The living world cannot operate without a healthy ocean, and neither can we.

“The living world cannot operate without a healthy ocean, and neither can we…. Fishing is the world’s greatest wild harvest and if we do it right, it can continue… the healthier the marine habitat, the more fish there will be, and the more there will be to eat.”

Sir David Attenborough

Why are our oceans so important?

Oceans are the life support system of our planet. “Covering three quarters of the Earth’s surface, (they) contain 97% of the Earth’s water, and represent 99% of the living space on the planet by volume.” Overfishing, pollution and acidifying oceans are leading to an unprecedented loss of biodiversity and degradation of marine habits.

What is Legal Sea Foods doing?

Legal Sea Foods has never been just a seafood restaurant. We were built on a long and proud family tradition of championing quality seafood in the New England fishing industry and around the world.

We take great pride in our maritime heritage and our role in advancing the nation’s love affair with New England seafood. From the cold waters of the Gulf of Maine we source the world’s best lobsters, clams and oysters. Our catch is landed daily at Boston’s century-old Fish Pier, underscoring our commitment to local fishing fleets as well as those working off the rocky New England coastline.

To us, responsible sourcing is part of our responsibility to our environment, customers, team and to the business. We are working closely with our seafood suppliers to implement responsible sourcing practices.

Where possible, we catch locally, use in season fish and source a wide variety of fish to encourage a healthy marine habitat.
